  • Beginning about the middle of the 19th century in both Western Europe and the Americas, interpretations of the Rococo forms of Louis XV gained in popularity. This occurred after the short restoration of the French monarchy under Louis Philippe in 1830, and the mid century popularity of French fashions of Louis Napoleon's Spanish wife Eugenie. As in most stylistic revivals. the original influence was to a large extent intermingled with favoured motifs and details from subsequent or other periods. The Philippe chandelier is truly representetive of the spirit of the Rococo Revival, large in scale, intricate in detail, with Louis XV candle arms supporting Empire float lamps. Swagged chains of Moorish inspiration are integrated into the fixture, adding that necessary touch of the exotic. The final image of this traditional fixture can only be described as magnificent.
