Features
  • Fluted "C" shaped arm supports, elegantly encrusted with guilded acanthus leaves, support small "float lamps" high above the central bowl on this Empire inspired chandelier. Originally, each little oil bowl would have a wick threaded through a thin metal disk which floated by means of a cork support on the surface of the oil. This disk, almost covering the oil's surface also searved the purpose of protecting the oil from insects and airborne dust particles, which could clog the wick and extinguish the flame. This simple device is the basis for all open bowl shaped oil and burning fluid lamps, a principle known before Biblical times.
